ET-15.118 - BILLY BOY ARNOLD – I WISH YOU WOULD

A1. I Wish You Would
A2. Everyday, Every Night
B1. Rockin' itis
B2. I Ain't Got You
Note:
Handsome William "Billy Boy" Arnold, a Windy City native, was blessed with harmonica tuition as a child by a neighbour who happened to be none other than legendary Sonny Boy Williamson the first.
He made his recording debut on Cool Records at the tender age of 16, but his recent sides for the Vee Jay label, as featured here, prove that he has mastered the art of the rockin' blues.

ET-15.117 - SONNY TERRY & BROWNIE McGHEE – RIDE & ROLL
A1. Anna-Mae
A2. Lost Jawbone
B1. Ride & Roll
B2. Hootin' Blues #2
Note:
Georgia-born blind harp-player Saunders Terrell (AKA Sonny Terry) joined forces with Walter "Brownie"McGhee from Tennessee in the early 1940s and their successful partnership has been entertaining fans of real blues ever since.
Although they are known for playing traditional blues they are also adept at performing in a more modern style as these recent recordings for Savoy and Groove are testiment.

ET-15.100 - LIGHTNIN' HOPKINS – HAD A GAL CALLED SAL
A1. Had a Gal Called Sal
A2. Hopkins' Sky Hop
B1. My Little Kewpie Doll
B2. They Wonder Who I Am
Note: Texan Sam Hopkins began performing with the legendary Blind Lemon Jefferson in the late 1920s, but had to wait for two decades before the Aladdin record business knocked at his door to record the duo of Thunder & Lightnin'.
A supremely rhythmic guitar player with a whiskey-soaked voice, Lightnin's recent waxings for New York's Herald label have been well received by the rock 'n' roll crowd.

ET-15.116 - LITTLE WALTER – EVAN'S SHUFFLE

A1. Evans' Shuffle (Muddy Waters with Little Walter)
A2. Mercy Baby (first version of "My Babe") - NEVER ON VINYL
B1. It Ain't Right
B2. Tell Me Mama
Note: Louisiana-born Marion "Little Walter" Jacobs arrived in the Windy City in 1945 and swiftly made a name for himself as an innovator of the amplified harrmonica in order to compete with the electric blues guitar. His allegiance with the Muddy Waters gang has now drawn him to the attention of the Chess brothers, who are impressed by his powerful singing voice as well as that devastating mouth harp!

ET-15.068 – WAHBOARD SAM – DIGGIN' MY POTATOES - 33RPM

A1. Diggin' My Potatoes
A2. Minding My Own Business
B1. Never, Never
B2. Shirt Tail
Note: "Robert Brown was born in Arkansas in 1910 and tried out various nicknames before "Washboard Sam"stuck to him in the 1930s when he moved to Chicago.
A veteran blues recording artist for Vocalion and Bluebird through the '30s and '40s he has now come out of retirement to record these four super tracks for Chess Records with his half-brother Big Bill Broonzy, boasting an update of his big hit "Diggin' My Potatoes""

ET-15.069 – LITTLE JOHNNY JONES – HOY HOY

A1. Hoy Hoy
A2. Wait Baby
B1. I May Be Wrong
B2. Dirty By the Dozen (Sweet Little Woman)

Note: Born in Jackson, Mississipi, in 1924, Little Johnny relocated to Chicago twenty years later to take his place among the great blues piano players with the help of the well-known Tampa Red and his cousin, Otis Spann.
His spell with slide-master Tampa led him to team up with Elmore James' combo in 1952 and it is Elmore and his musicians who accompany Johnny on his versions of these classics recorded for the Flair and Atlantic recording companies"
